How did we get HERE?!?!My babies aren't babies any more! They are 10 and 1/2 years old and in 5th grade. They have just recently started school and I wanted to share pics from the 1st day as this is their LAST year in elementary school. How did I miss SO many years on the blog? I'd like to play catch up for a little while, but for now I'll just post where we are today.
Kendall is ready to see her friends! She
loves to read and can't wait
until we let her wear REAL makeup and high heels. She is creative,
funny and enjoys playing YamSlam and card games (especially Trash). This semester she was asked to be part of the school announcements each morning. Currently she likes to work with clay or play-doh and she is really good at drawing.
on making his own comic book. Often we find him making trailers and different vehicles to transport all sorts of things around the house. He knows SO much about "real" cars too - their make/model - and he always surprises me when he just randomly identifies one as is passes us.
Emma will be a Safety Patrol this year which
means she has to be at school even earlier. Her
post is in the office with some of her favorite
people at school. She loves reading, learning new
hairstyles and fashion as well as home decor. She too loves crafty things, like making bracelets or necklaces and bookmarks.
And it is not what you are thinking. It was one of THOSE days that I don't want to forget. Not the "I just won the lottery!" days, but a day that made me feel content and like I am where I belong RIGHT now (because sometimes I wonder what I am doing).

We had a stay around the house day for the first half. Homemade waffles, eggs, bacon and orange juice. The kids had some TV time and then said they didn't want to watch TV anymore. Yes. They. Did. Instead they got into costumes and just played. Like kids do sometimes. The imagination stuff where one is a doctor or a dancer or a race car driver. And they played well together.

Clark needed a haircut so he and Daddy headed out for some "boy time" while I was home with the girls. They wanted "ballet music" so I put in a CD with classical music and then they asked for me to be their ballet teacher. I don't remember much since I was 6 when I took ballet lessons, but we have a book so we referred to it and did some stretching, practiced first through fifth position and they wanted to do some tippy toe moves as well. They love to do "ballet hands" and I love to watch them move in the graceful way that four-going-on-five year olds move. It was a treat. Kendall got out a couple of stuffed animals and set up mats as seating for them to watch the show.

Daddy and Clark returned home and everyone was ready for a trip to the park, but it was after 1p, so naps were threatened. We decided to offer skipping naps in order to make the most of the afternoon and the sunshine. We had a quick lunch and headed to McFee Park in Farragut because it offers a great play area with absolutely no shade on it and that is exactly what we needed on a cool day.

Unfortunately, it was not as sunny as I had hoped, but the kids had fun. And we did too. We took a walk around the whole park and gave each the opportunity to be the "line leader" which turned out to be a really big deal. Daddy found them each their own walking stick and we were on our way. I even incorporated some Operation Boot Camp-Knoxville moves in our walk with skipping, going sideways, walking backwards, etc.

Clark and Daddy decided they needed more boy exploration time and the girls wanted to get back to the playground. Emma found a new friend and they played tag, ran around and then collapsed on a bench. Kendall played "pirate girl" at the top of the slide but told me that I wasn't playing it right when I said "arrrrh, matey!"

We haven't taken the kids out to dinner very often in the last few months, except for McDonalds or ChickFilA. For some reason, we decided to check out Mr. Gatti's in Turkey Creek. I have never been there nor had the kids and we figured we would try it out since I had a good coupon. I won't give it super high marks on the food, but it was pleasant, kid-friendly and we all left with full bellies.

Normally Saturday is popcorn and movie night. Once the kids were bathed, they headed downstairs and Daddy helped them find something short. We all snuggled on the couch under blankets and watched a quick show before coming back upstairs to tuck them in for the night. They were all almost asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillows. Success!

Nope. It wasn't some big exciting adventure. We didn't win the lottery. And we didn't spend a lot of money. But we had time together as a family and it went smoothly. It's been a challenging week at home, so I welcomed these moments and I really cherish them. God reminded me of what it is I am supposed to be doing here on this earth. I am their mom and I need to be here for them and really WITH them. It was a very good day. Thank you God for this day.
And a Christmas Recap.....We had a relatively calm New Year's Eve but did party it up just a little with Auntie Karen and Uncle Tom, a bunch of appetizers and some of those "fun" NYE horns. Uncle Tom did the balloon drop and they even had little surprises inside some of the balloons. This required some popping of balloons. The Louis booties seemed to be a little too small to pop them by taking a seat, but there was a lot of effort, which was hilarious. They ran around the house blowing their noisemakers and it sounded like a gaggle of geese were being tortured (as we're the neighbors, I am sure), but they did have fun.

I'm going to try to get back to posting daily, with a photo or something written just to keep the memories "fresh". Tonight I thought I'd post a little about Christmas too since I missed it here.

As I tucked the girls into bed on Christmas Eve, Emma said I should get to bed. I mentioned that Santa makes his visits for boys and girls. Kendall pointed out that he would have to bring me my stocking items, so I agreed that it might happen. Kendall said that maybe Santa would bring me my "longest hair" for Christmas. How sweet.

And then my precious Clark said Jesus would come over for dinner for his birthday on Christmas. He explain that he would make pirate hats and I would need to get all of the other birthday "stuff". That's my boy working on hosting a party for Jesus. ;)

We spent the early morning opening gifts before heading to Auntie Karen and Uncle atom's house for brunch. It was a special gathering of friends and family including Tommy, Stephanie, Ricky, Doug, Nanny Barb, Mr. Jerry and Josh. The food was amazing and it was a pretty relaxed time for all, except for the mustard incident. Clark found a very interesting lazy Susan and wanted to give it a spin. Unfortunately, it had two different types of mustard in open dishes that went flying onto the carpet. I believe Clark has left a permanent reminder of his silliness on their carpet.

Aside from that, the kids enjoyed spending time with everyone, opening gifts, being silly and playing with their new toys. Clark got a Lego camper and truck which got put together pretty quickly with a little help from Josh and Nanny Barb and Mr. Jerry. They are SO handy! The girls got new Barbie dolls and some accessories. Clark and Emma also each got a kid's camera (one that Kendall had already), so they were ready to take photos of everyone. It was also funny that the girls decided to show up dressed in their brand new Disney princess costumes. They each got two costumes and have worn them almost every day.

We also announced to the kids that we are GOING TO DISNEY WORLD in January! I am so excited that I just wanted to be able to tell them it is coming. I don't think they quite understood it like I had hoped, but I know they are going to love it!

Santa brought Kendall a skateboard along with knee and elbow pads (for all). Emma got a baby doll with some play items/clothes from Santa. And Clark asked for a Lego set and a toy motorcycle. Apparently all three had been good because Santa came through for them.

Dinner was at Poo Pa's and scheduled for 5 or 5:30p but we all fell asleep and didn't wake until until 6:10p when Teddy started barking like a crazy dog. We were lucky that Poo Pa, Uncle Stevie and Uncle Albert tolerated us being over and hour late, but we were so happy to get the chance for a meal and some Christmas celebrating with them as well. The kids were thrilled to get to share some of the excitement of their new toys with their grandpa and uncles, so I think it was awesome.

We are so blessed to live so close to family and be able to make Christmas memories.

Merry Christmas (belated) and Happy 2013!

Once again, because I'm a Mom Ambassador with Moms Meet, I received a product for review and wanted to share my experience with anyone who might be interested.

Xlear SparX candy samples were provided as well as some Spry Children's Tooth Gels. Xlear (link to their Facebook page) SparX is manufactured by Xlear (please check out the website link because they have many other products including nasal sprays). SparX is a candy that is sweetened with xylitol. Xylitol is a plant-based, dentist recommended sweetener. It does, in my opinion, tend to make the product taste really sweet and almost "cold". The flavors I sampled were Fruit and Citrus and I thought both tasted pretty good for something that is made with a sweetener other than sugar. The packaging was nice because it snaps closed and didn't just fall open in my purse or bag. They are small, round little pebbles in pastel colors.

According to the information provided to me by the company, Xylitol has been proven to improve dental health and strengthen tooth enamel. This is pretty important to me since I have a VERY sweet tooth, and have had some issues with cavities over the years, despite the fact that I love to brush my teeth often. I have also recently completed chemotherapy treatments which can cause damage to the enamel of your teeth, so I thought this might actually be helpful.

I would recommend this to friends who are trying to avoid sweets made with sugar as long as they like products made with xylitol as a sweetener. Sometimes these sweeteners can be an acquired taste but I have had it xylitol, so there were no real surprises. My teeth will probably thank me later. :) Should you still be looking for those stocking stuffers, SparX would be great for kids and adults who enjoy sweet treats without all of the dental work that might follow. According to the information provided to me, the SparX candy retails for $1.49 per tube, which seems pretty reasonable.

I am excited about my first opportunity to review and blog about a product as a result of being a Mom Ambassador through Mom's Meet. The National Geographic Super Readers program is a great way to get kids motivated to read about nonfiction topics. My family always subscribed to National Geographic magazine when I was a child and young adult. When my children turned 4, we subscribed to the National Geographic Little Kids magazine and they enjoy the wonderful photographs and activities that are a part of the magazine. This Super Readers program is just another wonderful way that National Geographic brings "the world" home to children, so I was glad to have a chance to share this with my kids. National Geographic makes it easy to keep up with new publications via their Facebook page at National Geographic Books.

Since my children are not yet five, I appreciate the fact that the program is broken down into reading levels (Pre-Reader, Level 1, 2 and 3). This makes it much easier, as a parent, to decide which books would be right for my children as their reading skills progress. While we have one who is an avid reader (all on her own), my other two LOVE books but are not able to read independently. They all love discovering new books on the shelf and I can find so many new and interesting subjects they haven't yet experienced as a part of the Super Readers collection.

We received Sharks!, a Level 2 reader in the National Geographic Super Readers Program. The full-color pictures make the information very exciting (at least when describing sharks, as you could see the teeth of one VERY clearly on the cover). Since this is a Level 2 reader, we did read this book together and I'm sort of glad since it was such a slightly scary topic, but really interesting. The kids are always interested in animals, the ocean, etc, so it was easy sitting down to check it out with them.

The National Geographic Super Readers Website provides a chance for the kids (and parents) to download a poster which lists the readers by level and title and allows them to track their progress. Downloadable bookmarks, magnets and even an iron-on transfer can be found on the website as well to celebrate their participation. My kids are thrilled to have a chance to display any sort of accomplishments, so I expect that each one will have their own poster to track their progress reading through other books in the Super Readers Program. The website also encourages children to continue reading and achieving a higher reading level by offering other rewards and incentives. The games and activities will further enhance their experience.

I am able to offer THREE lucky winners a National Geographic Super Reader book, poster, bookmarks and badges. I will select the winner via Random.org on Sunday, December 9th, 2012 at 10:00pm EST. Please leave a comment below to enter.
Clark decided he didn't want to be part of the shenanigans since he was busy "mowing" and fixing his mower. This means, of course, that I have LOTS of pics of the girls and didn't get many of Clark. I did try but he wasn't in the mood. The good news was that Daddy conveniently located the big pile of leaves right at the bottom of the slide. This proved to be a really fun location!
I had trouble getting clear shots of the kids because 1.) it was getting dark fast, 2.) there are three of them and one of me, 3.) I haven't had a lot of time with my camera lately and I tend to keep it set on "auto" which means I don't always get what I was hoping for when I clicked.

Enjoy!

I should mention that I am NOT a fan of anything scary on Halloween. I love to let the kids dress up and have fun, but I do not like being creeped out by scary costumes or anything. I was thrilled that Kendall wanted to be Sleeping Beauty, although by Halloween, she decided on Tinkerbelle instead. Clark really wanted to be a dragon and somehow I didn't really have anything that would work (or so I thought). We went to an indoor trunk-or-treat type event the day before with another little friend of theirs who was dressed as Woody (from Toy Story), so we sent him with his Buzz Lightyear costume and he seemed happy. Emma was Skirt Girl. Come on. You've heard of her/ She's the newest and greatest super hero of them all. OK, not really. She is Emma's hero. She said she wanted to be skirt girl and when asked what that mean, she replied "I wear a skirt and look beautiful." I asked what else she would wear and she said that she would need a long or short-sleeved shirt and some pretty things. I missed the "pretty things" but she seemed to love her outfit. I think she will be able to help us stay creative during future Halloween costume-planning-sessions.

All three kiddos have been sick off and on for about 2 weeks. Clark was home with me for two days last week and Emma has been home this week. We had originally planned to return to the BEST NEIGHBORHOOD EVER for their incredible parade and opportunity to trick-or-treat, but decided to stay home. The kids were bummed until we said they could go out (with Daddy) to a few houses. They only hit about 5-6 homes that evening (including, of course, Poo Pa's house) but they loved every minute. Parenting success!

I hope that everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween!Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08170648814656300946noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572417236128992427.post-39686635583764472552012-09-18T19:22:00.001-04:002012-09-18T19:22:40.001-04:00A Little Catching Up....Summer FunI've been a complete slacker on our family blog. Once I get through my "big" chemo treatments (last one scheduled for October 8th), I have planned to try to resume posting at least one photo or brief story each day. It was a lot of pressure in 2010, but I am so thankful for those photos and memories and I want to be sure to remember even more of our adventures --- even the lazy, normal stuff too.

Anyway, we have enjoyed some beautiful and weather here lately with cooler temperatures. This means more time outside whenever possible. The temperatures had gotten so warm here that the kids didn't even want to play outdoors sometimes because even THEY were too hot.

Back in August (August 11, 2012), we had a fun afternoon/evening in the backyard with Kendall "mowing"...
Just the other evening (Sept 16, 2012) the kids were thrilled to get to run around and burn off some energy. We were busy inside making dinner and cleaning the kitchen, but Troy managed to get some pictures (through the kitchen window, hence some distortion, etc) of their crazy antics:
And we have had some late summer "visitors". We've put out a couple of hummingbird feeders and I am completely awestruck by their tiny size and ability to hover. But I have never really seen them stop anywhere before, so we've loved that one or two seem to enjoy perching on the weeping cherry tree just next to the feeder in the front flowerbed (right outside the bay window). Our other, less stunning, but equally interesting visitor is the writing spider that is on the OUTSIDE of a sunroom window doing a great job catching many flies and other little pesky insects. Troy showed me its little "pantry" where it has a long string of insects ready for another snack or meal. It's kind of gross, but pretty fascinating also...just as long as it stays OUTSIDE.
I hope to be back with more pictures and stories about the kids again very soon. I miss my camera and I miss keeping track of the memories and being able to read about them here, so I want to make it a habit once again. My goal is to begin during the holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas), so I hope you will be patient with me.
I really think they enjoyed the gardening and I hope we can continue/expand things next year. I apologize in advance that I don't have any pics of the kids with my plants. I will work on that in the coming days. I took these and worked on the post while they napped earlier today.]

Troy and I had discussed starting a small (think Square-foot Gardening) garden this year in order to save money on produce, teach the kiddos about where fruits, veggies and herbs come from and also to be sure that we knew that the foods we were feeding them were organic. I attended a great one-day event here in Knoxville, called Eat, Play Live Knox, which inspired me even more to try to grow more things at home and also buy produce grown locally. Well, in came my date with the infamous breast cancer beast and that sort of threw a kink in it.

Some amazing people from Westlake, where the kids attend preschool, came while I had my surgery and again when I was recovering to clean up the yard, flowerbeds and also plant some things that I got with a gift card and a half off certificate at Stanley's Greenhouse. My idea when looking for plants was that I wanted things that would attract hummingbirds, butterflies and other birds. I intention was to plant these goodies near the front bay window next to a bird feeder and bird bath (which ended up in the trash recently because it was falling apart). Anyway, the kids and I can watch the birds and butterflies near the window even on days when I don't feel like getting outdoors because of the heat. I also wanted plants that had different textures and purposes (herbs, vs ornamentals) so that we could talk about this as they grew and as the kids helped me water them. They enjoyed helping out with the planting and watering this summer. They have also been good at working on pulling weeds, though sometimes they might mistake a perfectly good plant for a weed. Oops.

Today I realized that some are annuals and some are perennials and I have no idea what to do with them once we have cooler temps, etc. Plus we have had great success with a few plants and have had some issues with others and I wanted to document. I've made a few notes in the captions. If you are a gardener and are able to offer any advice, especially regarding the first two pictures and also the look of the mint, please kindly leave a comment. I am very open to advice, suggestions and ideas. Below are pics that I took today. I made notes to myself and created a Garden 2012 file in my email folders but I thought I'd just share the pics and some personal notes here:

Unfortunately, this one didn't survive the weeding and we also lost the tag from the nursery. Hopefully I can locate it again next year, though I might choose to skip it because it was pretty delicate.

**I should also mention that my all-time favorite plant/flower is the Hydrangea and I received TWO plants back in May. They have survived, barely, but I didn't get to photograph them because I was being attacked by mosquitoes and just couldn't take it any longer. I dream of having rows and rows of hydrangeas lining my fence area sort of like my Great Aunt had in Cape Cod. They were just beautiful and there were hundreds of them. Here is a stock photo of some that I love:
I was on the phone with the administration the week prior getting final paperwork together and didn't believe it when they said records indicated he hadn't been to the doctor since Feb 2011 (for a physical). I called the doctor's office myself and yes, it was true and I was that mom. You see, I had them booked for physicals around their birthday, but someone was sick and we needed to reschedule. It is just easier to keep them on the same schedule, so when one cancels, we cancel all three. Well, then this whole breast cancer thing came up and I just completely forgot to ever get it scheduled again. Seriously, I am that mom. I hate taking perfectly healthy children into an office where there are sick kids wandering around and spreading germs anyway, so you won't see me jumping at the chance to go to the office, despite the fact that we love the doctor and nurses and nurse practitioners. And then I just had so many other things going on that I completely forgot.

Fast forward a few days and now I had a deadline to meet and the office managed to fit Clark in last week and the girls in this week. I felt it necessary to post the stats all together, so I've been waiting with Clark's numbers until the girls had their appointment as well. Drum roll please............

Official age: 4 years and almost 7 months

Kendall 39lbs (61%) and 42.2in (70%)

Emma 33lbs (17%) and 40.2in (29%)

Clark 36lbs (31%) and 42.5in (68%)

As our doctor predicted at age two, it still appears that Emma is built like a gymnast - petite and strong with long torso and short legs (AKA low center of gravity) and she will be lucky to hit 5 ft - 5 ft 2 in. We are going to have to keep her focused on growing just a little bit taller before we can plan a family trip to Disney because the height requirements for some rides is 42 inches. She is almost there.

It looks like there is a good chance Kendall will be taller at 5 ft 8-10in or so. I knew she had sprouted and was growing quickly because dresses were suddenly too short at the beginning of the summer. She is so muscular as well and even showed off her abs when the doctor checked out her belly. She was very interested in what was going on around her.

Clark is growing like a weed. Originally he was the smallest one of the bunch and now he is the tallest, though not by much. He will have to keep eating those vegetables to stay ahead of his sister. He was very chatty during both visits and was so pleasant with the staff when it was just the two of us for his appointment. It made my heart smile to see him communicate with other adults and have conversations that were completely appropriate. Of course, he asked about their vehicles and what color truck/car that they own, but that is just Clark.

They all handled their shots (just one for each child) as well as could be expected, but it did help that they got a sticker, a "treasure box" prize, a lollipop and then a trip to Wendy's for a Frosty. Unfortunately, when two go at the same time, one gets the shot first and the other one has to witness it before actually experiencing it for themselves and that was not good for Kendall. Poor thing. She was asking for her shot as soon as we arrived and then Emma got hers first and it went downhill very fast as both girls got pretty upset. Last year, Kendall actually watched them give her the shot and barely made a peep, so I was a little surprised by her reaction, but can't blame her since I've never been a fan of shots myself.

It is pretty late and I've got a long day ahead of me, so I'm going to stop here and plan to post another update tomorrow or sometime this weekend.

Happy Friday, friends!Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08170648814656300946noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572417236128992427.post-9669220559882135322012-08-06T21:10:00.000-04:002012-08-07T07:55:01.623-04:00Summer Olympics 2012 Coverage at the Louis HouseWe chose to cancel cable last year and just subscribe to Hulu Plus and Netflix for a grand total of about $17 per month plus internet of $51 vs our prior cable/internet bill of approximately $125-$150/month. We just don't watch TV enough to justify such an expense and we were trying to find ways to cut back. Yes, there are some things that I miss, like A&E, Discovery Channel, Lifetime, HGTV and the Food Network. But there are so many options to watch current programming on various websites, Hulu or Netflix, that I don't miss too much. Well, except for the fact that I really don't even keep up with what is on TV lately, so I do miss a lot but I'm not even aware of it.

All of that lead to me stating that yesterday was the first time we turned on coverage of the Olympics. The kids have been pretty run down, not napping and sleeping very well and are fighting runny noses and coughs, presumably from allergy issues. Since there is always so much to get done around the house, it was a good time to have "family day" (Emma's declaration) around the house. The kids were content playing on their Leapsters, opening their restaurant and even watching some of the Olympics.

When I first mentioned turning it on, they asked "What is the Olympics?" and I had to Google what to discuss with preschoolers, especially since I didn't have a great explanation prepared. I mean I "know" what the whole idea is, sort of, but didn't exactly know how to put it into terms that the kids would understand. And then I wasn't even sure I knew what they REALLY were. Sporting events that are competitive between countries all over the world. These athletes are the best of the best. But I just don't really think about exactly what they mean.

And then, when I first turned it on, it was coverage of tennis. I don't know that they had ever watched tennis, but they were pretty interested and asked all sorts of questions, mostly about the people on either side in the very tall chairs. And some thoughts about the sweat band worn by one player.

Later, there was a story on the 1972 gymnast, Olga Korbut, who won a number of gold medals for Russia. She also was the reason behind a huge interest in the United States for girls to start taking gymnastics. It became quite a big industry here as a result of witnessing her amazing performances. They played back some of her routines on the uneven bars, the floor and one other event (balance beam?). Again, the kids were all pretty interested, especially the girls. What I didn't plan for was their interest in imitating the floor routine. Kendall decided to do all sorts of jumping and diving onto the floor and rolling into a somersault along with rolling over on her side and doing dance moves at the same time. They also tried their hand at the uneven bars by using their plastic Angelina Ballerina ballet bar. Um, no. I don't think so. That was a disaster waiting to happen. In fact, Kendall fell over with it on top of her as I was walking out of the room. She didn't get hurt, but didn't come running to me either since she knew she had been warned. I just kept walking and started praying that we weren't headed to the ER.

Daddy sat down with them for lunch and watched the Equestrian event. What an interesting, albeit it a little slow, event to watch with them. They were simply fascinated watching a rider get the horse to jump over fences, small ponds and other items that were London-inspired, such as a double-decker bus replica (I think it was just the ends of a fence that were decorated this way, but I didn't get a good look). They would make the "aaawww" sound, as did other spectators, when a horse would accidentally knock over a rail of the fence or dip a hoof in the water.

During dessert that evening (homemade peach cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream...way to go Daddy!) we watched the women's diving event. We did let them know ahead of time that these women practiced a lot in pools that are very deep in order to dive off of the board. They loved watching the women jump into the air (spring board diving) and then come down doing all sorts of twists, flips and turns just before splashing (and sometimes not splashing very much at all) into the water.

All in all, I felt really good about the TV time for once. Troy and I remember when were were growing up, everything else sort of took a time out for the television coverage of the Olympics. We, of course, didn't have over 100 channels to watch to distract anyone's attention, but even the regular channels just didn't have much that competed as they typically played re-runs of shows. The whole family would usually get together and watch some events. It was certainly nostalgic to hear the theme song played yesterday and I hope to keep them interested during many more Olympic gatherings in the future. There were definitely a lot of ideas related to celebrating and having parties or outside games inspired by the Olympics which will be lots of fun as they get older.

Will watching the games move them to try tennis, water polo, horseback riding, gymnastics or diving? Who knows. But it was certainly time well spent and that was good enough for me.
Last year we got a membership to her neighborhood pool which is awesome, mostly because we are almost always the only people there, but also because they have a big kiddie pool. This year, since I can't really be out in the heat (risks after surgery and not great in the midst of chemo) and I don't want to risk the germs IN the pool (since I have NO immune system to speak of), we did not get a family membership. Yesterday, we were finally able to coordinate with Nanny Barb to meet us at the pool so we could see all that the kids have learned this summer.
You might remember that we tried swim lessons in the spring, but they didn't go well for the girls after the first session when they felt a little too much pressure to swim on their own to the instructor. Don't get me wrong, the instructor is AMAZING and I highly recommend her. But the girls just got spooked and then they tended to make it worse for each other. Clark, on the other hand, proved to be quite the little fish and he loved Ms. Teresa.
We have been hearing stories from Nanny Barb that all three are now "swimming" in the big pool with the aid of swim vests, kick boards and/or swim rings. They are kicking, using their arms and even putting their heads under water. It was so great to finally get to see them show off for us. And they loved having Daddy and their Nashville cousin, Marshall, in the water with them.
I'm so glad we got that time together, but I admit that I like watching more than swimming. ;)
The other evening, they took my order for their restaurant. Kendall was the waitress getting the order. Then Clark was the chef and Emma the expediter. It was hilarious. And even funnier was when Kendall asked what I wanted to eat. I told her a grilled cheese, sweet potato fries and a salad. "You want a drink with that?" was her response. Then she proceeded to take me to my table and stepped away. Moments later, she informed me that they were out of the food. When I asked what food was available, she went to the "window" to ask (this was the TV) and came back saying that there wasn't any food left. She wasn't worried and didn't offer any solutions. Emma just kept dragging more pretend food to my plate that was NOT on my original order. And Clark? He just kept making me eggs.
They repeated the same scenario with Daddy once I retreated to check on laundry. I think he was able to actually get some food as requested though. We laughed after they were in bed and we retold our own dining experience in their restaurant.

It's not much to most people, but it is one of those memories that I'd like to be sure I hang onto for a while.

Nightie-night and thanks for putting up with my long absences.

And here's a cute shot of the kids at the zoo back in June (the one in blue is a friend, but I don't have permission to post a photo of him, so the backside seemed safe). They are growing up SO fast!
Unfortunately, Troy had gone out to Home Depot and I even had to call him to let Clark hear Daddy's voice. Then he decided that he needed to see "the girls" so we went to their room for some comforting that only siblings can offer. All three piled into Kendall's bed and the girls immediately went to work trying to get him to feel better. Kendall soothed him with her words and kept patting his head. Emma got out the Richard Scarry book, Busy Workers, because she knows that he likes that particular book.

It was actually such a precious exchange that I didn't want to forget so I grabbed my camera, turned on the light and got a few shots. Sure, they were annoyed that it was TOO BRIGHT and the flash made things worse. And Kendall was more interested in making silly faces. But I will never forget this particular time when he sought out his sissies for some snuggle-time.

Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08170648814656300946noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572417236128992427.post-37474250109330178372012-06-06T22:10:00.003-04:002012-06-06T22:16:19.051-04:00Praying for LucyPlease pray for Lucy, her sister, her brother and her mommy and daddy.Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08170648814656300946noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572417236128992427.post-82146440894407476372012-05-28T23:28:00.003-04:002012-05-28T23:40:30.529-04:00H2O + Uncles + Mr. Jerry + Daddy = FUN!!!
I only have this one photo that I feel like I can post without being punched in the face. But I had to post a reminder for our family that we had an amazing Memorial Day celebration together.

Poo Pa, Uncle Albert, Aunt Tami, Nanny Barb and Mr. Jerry, Auntie Karen and Uncle Tom all joined us for a potluck cookout this evening. The food was great. The desserts were awesome. And we had lots of laughs.

The kids have enjoyed lots of moments in the sprinklers and even the pool (our blow-up version) this weekend because it has been HOT-HOT-HOT! We dug out the water shooters (a Dollar Tree spectacular deal - not guns, but longer tubes that squirt water) earlier today. I thought I'd be cute and squirt Daddy. But little did I know that Emma was sneaking up behind me and got me soaked! I couldn't even be mad because as our neighbor, Mr. Watts said "Values are caught, not taught." And Mommy was shooting Daddy with the water gun so it was only fair that Emma got me too. :)

But this evening was even more hilarious at the adults (men, of course) were trying to be fun and squirt the kids, only to end up soaked by the end of the evening. Uncle Tom finally gave in and jumped in with the kids. Kendall was not a big fan of the craziness as she just wanted to keep her pool water IN THE POOL. Emma and Clark, however, were sharp-shooters and seemed to enjoy all of the fun of chasing the big guys around the yard.

Thank you to all who serve our country to keep us safe.

And thank you to our family and "family" for joining us today. It has been a busy weekend with a block rehearsal on Friday, dress rehearsal yesterday and then the actual recital today. The girls have taken part in Wee Dance which is a mix of tap and ballet for the little ones, which lead to two different costumes and two different dances.
All of the girls in the class did such a great job. They were just beautiful and we loved watching them. We were lucky to have Aunt Tami come for the weekend to see them perform. Also in attendance for the rehearsal was Ms. Sue and Alex. Today, Daddy, Uncle Stevie, Auntie Karen, Uncle Tom, Tommy and Stephanie came to see the actual recital. Nanny Barb graciously offered to manage the backstage duties since my range of motion is limited following my surgery. She was a real trooper, though I'm sure she will not be volunteering to do the same job for any future performances.

Anyway, we were so proud of their performance. And mommy was on the other side of the camera as Aunt Tami had her camera out to get some shots. Even Emma was in on the photo-taking. While the makeup had to be pretty dramatic, in the end, they were just beautiful.

Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08170648814656300946noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572417236128992427.post-47990816824316343672012-05-23T17:50:00.003-04:002012-05-23T22:44:12.383-04:00Recap: Fun Time with Nanny Barb - Part 1

Nanny Barb and Mr. Jerry have taken on a big job by agreeing to be the caregivers for the kids when we have to be away overnight. Troy won an all-expense paid trip for 3 nights to a certain location in Orlando that shall-not-be-mentioned specifically for fear of emotional distress that could be caused. I had surgery on May 3rd in Nashville so we were away for a few more days the following weekend. I just recently was able to get the pictures from her camera and wanted to start posting a few at a time.

They are such precious people and have blessed us more than we could have ever imagined. The kids are completely comfortable in their home and we are worry-free because we know that they are safe and loved. And I'm also very grateful that they are so thoughtful to grab a camera and get some pictures when we are away.

I'll be back soon with another installment.

Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08170648814656300946noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4572417236128992427.post-66111978213750392902012-04-08T21:54:00.003-04:002012-04-08T22:03:15.347-04:00Our Easter Blessings 2012

We had a really fun Easter with the family. Poo Pa, Uncle Stevie and Uncle Albert hosted lunch at their house with ham, sweet potato souffle, beans, rolls and.....EASTER BUNNY CAKE! Yum. It was all a hit with the kids (and the adults).
The kids really lucked-out because the Easter Bunny actually made a quick run by Poo Pa's house and managed to hide quite a few eggs in the backyard. They had SO much fun hunting for the goodies. And, as you can see in the pictures, Clark was the winner of the extra prize when he located the Golden Egg. What a tradition that could be for us!

After lots of sweets and treats, we decided to skip naps and head straight for the outdoors. They had time to ride bikes, play in the back yard, "mow" and run around for HOURS before ever having to come indoors. Auntie Karen and Uncle Tom dropped by and he even got in the fun when he chased the kids around the yard. I am hoping that they will sleep like rocks tonight!

Happy Easter to all and to all a good night.

Kimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08170648814656300946noreply@blogger.com0
