Pee pee on the potty!!!

Yes. Our big boy Clarkie just went pee pee on the potty for the first time (with Mommy and Daddy anyway). We are singing and dancing all sorts of praises. He just got to pick out a candy prize and chose a marshmallow snow man.
We are so excited and wanted to share it with everyone (and maybe shout it from the rooftops)!
He was reluctant but we knew he really needed to go and Daddy told him that we won't be able to visit Disney World until he can use the potty. I think that is what convinced him to finally get in there and make it happen.
While he enjoyed his marshmallow treat, he asked "Can I go to Disney World now?"

Merry Christmas?.....Yes!

I had to post that with a question mark because it has been a challenging week for the little ones in our house. We took a quick trip to Nashville on the 16th to see the family. It was a great trip as we were able to spend some quality time with the cousins/nephews and enjoy some special holiday fun. Aunt Marsha told us about an amazing puppet show going on at the library downtown. This particular type of puppet show was in the Japanese style known as Bunraku (I think).
I was very fascinated and appreciated that the two main puppeteers showed the children how they would be covering their faces with black cloths but there was no need to be afraid. Clark wasn't particularly interested but the girls stayed focused for most of the thirty minute program.
Aunt Marsha also got out the cookie dough and the kids made some Christmas cookies. We got a kick out of their Elf on the Shelf and how Marshall was able to locate him very quickly each morning. The kids also love their gigantic collection of Legos and other "big-kid" toys.

We returned home late on Sunday evening and it was a relief to fall into bed that night. We had no idea what the next week would bring aside from the excitement that Christmas was just around the corner.

Monday morning came and the girls both woke up with fevers so I stayed home with them and Clark went to school. Kendall recovered quickly (or so we thought) and she and Clark both went to school on Tuesday but Emma and I hunkered down at home. She was definitely feeling worse and was just pitiful.
I was so thankful that her doctor was able to fit her in that morning as I noticed that she seemed even warmer and more lethargic. At the office, we were all alarmed when more than one thermometer read over 106 degrees. I was preparing myself emotionally for a trip to the hospital and was relieved when they decided to treat her pneumonia aggressively with antibiotics for 48 hours and see how she did. I was worried but more comfortable with the idea of having her at home while we tried to get her better.
By Thursday, she was improving and Kendall and Clark took a wrong turn somewhere that took them down a similar road with fevers. I was at wits end at this point as Christmas was a couple of days away and my kiddos were miserable and was really thankful that our sitter was already scheduled to watch them since school was out.
Since we already had one with pneumonia, I ended up taking Kendall and Clark to the doctor and they decided we were now dealing with a sinus infection (K) and bronchitis (C). Now all three would be taking an antibiotic which was just fine by me.
Daddy stayed home with them on Friday and then we had a relatively quiet Christmas weekend at home with just the five of us. Our plans to spend time with the family had to be cancelled but we did get them out Friday and Saturday evening to look at Christmas lights. Clark and Emma really enjoyed getting out of the house and seeing the light displays but Kendall was not interested at all.
They were so excited to hear that I had received emails from the North Pole because Santa had sent each one of them a special video message. We were all relieved to hear that all three were on his "nice list." In light of the positive feedback from Santa we felt it would be wise to leave some cookies and milk for his pending arrival during the night. We set out a few carrots for his reindeer as well. It is important that Santa and the reindeer keep up their strength for the long night they have ahead of them you know.
On Christmas morning we were all amazed to find magic footprints left behind by Santa (see photo below)! They expected to see snow outside since his footprints were white, but we explained that these were magic and not really the typical snow that was cold and would melt.
The kids were so excited about the goodies left in their stockings and under the tree. The big ticket items were new toothbrushes and some candy (chocolate Santas, peanut butter cups, candy canes and festive Peeps). And what a great combination of sugary treats and dental care items, right?!? Santa is one smart dude.
We had a yummy breakfast which included monkey bread and then opened gifts and played with the new toys. Daddy had to make an unplanned visit to a walk-in clinic due to a serious ear infection. And I was thankful that Aunt Marsha and Uncle Bill had sent along a gift that needed unwrapping which turned out to be a play house. It was a great diversion and kept the kids happy while we spent another day at home with just "us."
The rest of the day was nothing out-of-the-ordinary and pretty peaceful. All in all, it was not the picture-perfect Christmas but we still feel fortunate that we were together and no one ended up in the hospital. This was really the first year that the kids had any idea of whatever role Santa might play. We also spent a lot of time during the month talking about how it was Jesus' birthday that we are celebrating on Christmas day and that is what makes it so special. This was definitely special for us.

Fantasy of Trees Recap

I realized that I never managed to get a post on the blog about our trip to the Fantasy of Trees. This is an annual event in our area that benefits the local Children's Hospital and occurs during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The kids love it more every year and we really enjoy the many activities that they offer for young children and anyone who wants to get in the Christmas spirit.
Uncle Stevie rode with us and we met up with Auntie Karen, Ms. Dee (my friend from work) and Ms. Lindsay and her adorable niece, G.
Our annual tradition of creating Christmas potholders imprinted with their handprints went more smoothly than ever. I do wonder how much longer we will manage to put all three handprints on one potholder though. It's getting a little crowded.
They really had fun riding on the carousel and also the ride that resembles spinning teacups but was a berry theme (a berry-go-round). We attended a little party with special guest, Santa, that included singing, story time and crafts. And, as if that wasn't enough, they each got a great little goodie bag with fun Christmas treats and toys.

Today was another Dollywood trip with Auntie Karen and Uncle Tom but this time they took Clark and Kendall. It was a super-cold day but beautiful weather otherwise. The kids loved the rides, ice cream and just spending time with K&T.

Sharing Some Christmas Joy

The kids seem to be understanding so much more about Christmas this year than in years past. We are excited to share the fun of the holidays but we also want to make sure that they know that Christmas is all about our Savior, Jesus Christ. I have struggled to know just HOW to present all of this information to them and still throw in the stockings, Santas, tinsel and gifts. It has been a relief for us that they have no idea that they can actually put in a "request" to Santa and have any expectations that he might deliver. I was told that they only asked for candy during a recent visit to see Santa.

In light of the spirit of the season, I just wanted to share some things that I enjoy or look forward to sharing with our family. Early on, we always attend the Fantasy of Trees which happens during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend here in Knoxville. The funds raised benefit our local Children's Hospital and they always have a bunch of fun events and activities for children and adults. (Pics to come from our trip to the Fantasy of Trees). There is a Holiday Festival of Lights (scroll down to the end) at the Cove that offers a really nice Christmas light display, hot chocolate, visits by Santa, bonfires and roasted marshmallows. Last year we took a short trip to the Smokies Stadium to see Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland which is a drive-through, fully synchronized, LED Christmas light (and music) show. And there are always the wonderful displays throughout the neighborhoods in our area that we love to check out.

I also wanted to share some of the Christmas books that I have really enjoyed sharing with the kids. Aunt Sandi bought them these last year:

J is for Jesus, The Sweetest Story Ever Told, also by Crystal Bowman.

And A Star for Jesus, which is also by Crystal Bowman.

All of these books are available at Cedar Springs Christian Store and can be ordered online. They are great for teaching little ones about the TRUE meaning of CHRISTmas.

I am also excited about the arrival of The Christmas Angel (book and angel) that I ordered today after hearing about it here on the Frugalissa Finds blog. This looks to be a great tradition and I'm excited about sharing it with my little elves.

Growing up, I was also very fond of the Amelia Bedelia books and I found Merry Christmas, Amelia Bedelia and decided it had to be part of our collection.

That's about all I can cover for this post. I hope to start posting more about local events and activities that we love here in Tennessee.

Christmas at Dollywood: Part 1

Auntie Karen and Uncle Tom took Emma to Dollywood last weekend. It was supposed to be a trip for both girls but Kendall was just not feeling up to the trip and opted to wait until next weekend. Emma was obviously very happy to have her auntie and uncle all to herself!

Apparently she had a mouth full of chicken when Santa greeted her, but that looks more like she was just suspicious of his fashion choices.

Auntie Karen is pleased to share the "lefty" world with her niece and show her that coloring with her left hand is just right. :)

And I think Uncle Tom was terrified when he found out that Emma hadn't passed her driving exam quite yet!

The kids and Daddy had a leaf-raking party last weekend. We were waiting until most of the leaves had finally fallen before trying to get one of those giant piles for the kids. I think we waited long enough, don't you?

And from the looks of things, fall is just about over. Let's face it, Christmas music is already playing in all of the stores around town. And I am NOT one to complain about Christmas music...ever. So, yes, it's about time to say goodbye to fall and hello to that mean old winter. Bah humbug!

Workin' Hard

The kids spent an hour with Uncle Tom and Auntie Karen and were busy helping him pull bushes out, rake, dig holes, bake cookies and play with dolls. Whew! All that in just an hour!

I tried to get a couple of pics as did Auntie Karen. They aren't the best but it helps us remember some fun they had today.

Toasted Marshmallows

A few weeks ago, we were invited to Nanny Barb's house to toast marshmallows. They had been talking about this for weeks, so Troy and I were pretty excited. Well, I was as excited about eating marshmallows as they were. I could polish off a bag on my own, so I was concerned that we were going to have enough for all of us. :)
They had a great time and enjoyed their s'mores. And it seemed that one was plenty for all of them but it was probably because of the hard work involved in eating said treat.

I have been running like a hamster on one of those wheels. I feel like I can't stop for fear of getting even further behind. It seems that I am about 4 years behind in everything and I am at the breaking point. Chaos is just not good...for anyone. And if I feel like things are chaotic, what must it feel like to the kids?
I struggle to get the work/life balance thing straight and often think that it isn't even possible. It is that pot 'o gold at the end of the rainbow. But I love working in some capacity and staying home didn't really work for me and the kids. I think I am a better mom because I do work outside of the home and it's just that time in our lives where it is necessary for me to work. I don't think it will last forever. I hope to be one of those "classroom moms" who is involved with everything.
I met the sitter at dance class and giggled at Kendall learning how to plié. The teacher would adjust the position of her feet (turning outwards). Then when Kendall needed to adjust again, she just bent down and turned theme facing out again. It was cute, funny and sweet all at once.
I promise to get pictures posted to morrow.

Today is our anniversary. Our seventh anniversary. And we have three kids under the age of four. Sure, that isn't really very unusual. But if you had told either of us that we would have three kids by now, we would have slapped you. Ok, maybe "slapped you" is just a little too strong. But I would have definitely punched you in the arm and told you exactly how crazy you were for even thinking such a thing!

Yet, here we are. It's the ultimate in crazy. But I really don't know that I can imagine it any other way.

No pictures tonight because they are busy uploading to Snapfish so that I can print photos to be distributed with Christmas cards. Yup. Happy Anniversary to us. :). I am a wild woman!

Remember Us???

Yes it HAS been a while. I have started so many posts that just never made it. And I've thought about so many other posts that I needed to get onto the blog that never quite happened. But, here I am posting again after MUCH too long.
Today was just one of those days that I don't want to forget. Daddy had special time with Clark. He might have to elaborate on his own, but I do know that it involved some putt putt golf and then games, like Skee-ball, at Zuma. Afterwards, they dined at Long's Drug Store (up at the counter) on burgers, fries and a yummy vanilla milkshake. According to Daddy, it was one of the best shakes he's ever had, so that is certainly saying something. I believe that the one-on-one time is really important for most children and Clark certainly does seem to benefit from it.

The girls, Auntie Karen and I had other plans. We were going to Disney on Ice. It's a first for me, but Auntie Karen has been telling me about it for years. It was pretty amazing, especially for a Disney fan like me. I wish that I could have taken more pictures of the girls during the show, but I had the wrong lens since I was hoping to get some shots of the characters during the show too. And, once I looked over the pics, I realized that the girls were wearing their coats in almost every picture, so you can't see how adorable they looked in their dresses, tights and fancy shoes. :)
The "oohs and aahs" were so sweet and the squeals of excitement when Mickey and Minnie first came out onto the ice were something that I don't want to forget. Kendall would ask "Are we done?" each time they would skate off to indicate a change of story. She wasn't ready to go, but I think she was just wondering when all of the excitement would have to come to an end. They loved eating the cotton candy (and the girls would imitate the guy yelling "Cotton Candy Candy") and got every last drop of their snow cones in the super-special Disney on Ice cups. We chose a Shark cup for Clark because, of course, he HAD to have one. We also grabbed a souvenir program which will help to remind us of each scene throughout the show.
After experiencing the wonder and excitement of the Disney on Ice show with the girls, I am definitely ready to load them up and head to Disney World. I think they would absolutely LOVE it, but we are hoping to wait until they are past the nap-stage of their lives before we take such a big trip.

It was an amazing day and I hope that the girls will always remember their first Disney on Ice!

The girls are getting ready for their first dance class tomorrow evening! It's Wee Dance (or something like that) at KnoxDanceWorx. We won a year of classes for one child (at a Knoxville Multiples Club meeting) and decided to sign up both girls this year. They have an hour class once per week where they spend half of the time learning ballet and the other half learning how to tap dance. I am SO excited because I grew up taking tap lessons, so I'm hopeful that at least one of them actually like tap dancing. :) (Yes, I am a tap-dancing nerd and proud of it!)
At the moment, they are pretty excited to put on the leotards, tights and tap shoes. The ballet shoes were good too, but they definitely enjoyed the noise generated by the tap shoes.
I'm sure I will have to be back soon with updates on how their first class went, so stay tuned. I am trying to get back to being the diligent blog-posting mommy because I know how much this will mean to me many years from now.
For now, I must sign off and get to bed as another day of fun is just around the corner!

Sunday Sprinklers

We had a threat of rain all day Sunday and two of our wonderful children slept in until 10am, so we decided to just turn on the sprinkler outside before lunchtime and give them some time to run around.

It was finally a chance for me to just sit down and try to get some photographs of the kids and keep the camera in "manual mode", which has been a challenge lately. I'm struggling to get pics taken often and since we are usually inside in the evening, I tend to turn the camera to "auto" (a big no-no from my photography class almost two years ago) so that I can at least get a shot that is in focus and has a reasonable chance at the correct lighting. Sunday was an overcast day and the perfect opportunity to try my hand at manual again. And it was FUN! [I should note that Clark has a piece of grass right by his nose that looks a little less than ideal for a photo, but I am not bothering to work on the editing before posting this time. Forgive my laziness, but I just wanted to get another post out here before I call it a day.]

Got Ducks?

Saturday was the annual Great Tennessee Valley Duck Race to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley. They sell rubber ducks for a chance to win a number of great prizes. All of the ducks (estimated to be 40,000-50,000) are dumped into the Tennessee River downstream of the downtown area. They eventually make their way to Volunteer Landing where lots of people are awaiting their arrival.
There was a great children's area with inflatables and food (can you say FUNNEL CAKES?!?!?!). My wonderful friend, Lindsay, went with us (I should mention that the kids LOVE LOVE LOVE her) and we spent some time entertaining the kids. It was a little warm, so we only lasted a couple of hours but I think the kids liked it. Afterwards, we made a stop at Brusters to introduce Ms. Lindsay to their yummy ice cream. They are all fans of mint chocolate chip now after trying Auntie Karen's "green ice cream" a few weeks ago.

Take Them Out to the Ballgame!

My amazing boss and his wife treated my co-workers and our families to a fun night of food, fellowship and baseball last Friday night. We went to the Smokies Stadium to see the Smokies take on a team from Jacksonville. This was the first time the kids have been to a "real" baseball game.

They had so much fun getting to know the kids and adults that shared the suite/box with us. There was plenty of food to allow us to graze all evening on something (including hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, chips, salad, ice cream and cookies). We were also treated to an amazing fireworks show after the Smokies won the game! The kids seemed a little surprised at how loud the fireworks were, but they quickly discovered how beautifully they lit up the sky and it seemed to calm any fears or concerns.

We hope to take them back to a game again soon, but I wonder if they will expect the star-treatment again with access to air-conditioning, sofas, tables, unlimited food and so many wonderful people around to get to know????? It was definitely a night full of great memories!

Fun on Market Square

"Whatch' you talkin' about Willis???"

Daddy worked a little overtime today just for kicks and we got together with Auntie Karen and Uncle Tom to take the kids to Market Square. The girls, in particular, were a little "off" today. I won't say that they were in a terrible mood, but not necessarily cooperative. And not always happy and ready to have fun. We were met with a number of protests along the way, but we kept on pushing forward to get there. Uncle Tom and Clark left to run a few errands and met us downtown. I think Clark really enjoyed his one-on-one time with Uncle Tom.
Originally, we had planned to have lunch at a little cafe on Market Square that my parents liked, but it closed (and I don't know how long ago that happened). Instead, we did a little wandering and the kids were able to taste some "jelly bean tomatoes" (they are small and very sweet). Emma seemed to be a fan, but Kendall was kind enough to give her's away. Afterwards, we strolled along looking at some of the fruits, veggies, bakery goods, etc that various vendors had for sale and listened to a man playing the guitar. There are a number of people who bring their dogs to the area, so it is fun to check out the many sizes, shapes and breeds of puppies out and about.
Despite numerous dining options, we chose Subway because they actually have seating and an indoor restroom. It turned out to be a pretty bad choice because the service was terrible and it was REALLY warm in the restaurant where we sat. But we survived and then the kids were ready to get in the water/fountains. I had hoped that they would end up too tired to get wet, but that was not the case. In the end, I'm glad that they jumped around in the water because I think they were worn out by the time we left and the ride home was peaceful. They even went down for naps with very little protest. Whew.
Now for Sunday.....thinking the zoo, maybe? We'll see.

We were able to get back to the pool today with the kiddos. It was a tough call because our Tennessee Aquarium and our Creative Discovery Museum passes expired after today so we considered taking another trip to Chattanooga. But we decided that none of us were really up for the car ride.
Luckily Uncle Tom wasn't working today and he and Auntie Karen met us at the pool so he could swim with the kids. They LOVED it! Emma spent a lot of time at first just trying to dump water on his head. She remains very fascinated that "Uncle Tom doesn't have any hair!" so it was fun pouring water on his head. : )
Mommy, Daddy and Uncle Tom took the kids for a swim in the "big pool", but soon we were all ready to get back to the kiddie pool. They really are getting comfortable in the water while still retaining just a hint of fear (which we think is probably a good thing). We are working on blowing bubbles and getting them to attempt to hold their breath under water.
It's fun for us to pack up a picnic, drinks, water toys and just head to the pool and spend a few hours. We don't have the distractions of laundry, dishes, yard work, etc, so we can focus on relaxing a little and just hanging out.
I need to shut things down because I've got an early morning tomorrow. We can't forget to say "Happy Clean Sheet Sunday" though.

The Boy and a Truck

We did a little one-on-one time today. Auntie Karen and Uncle Tom took Clark for an outing which included truck shopping. They aren't necessarily buying a truck, but Clark is always fascinated by trucks and where people put their trucks, etc. It looks like he was having fun "test-driving" this one. Note that he buckled his seat belt. :) That's my boy!
For some reason the picture got cut off when I downloaded it, but I just don't have the energy to fix it right now.

Another Sunday Shout Out

Once again, we spent the majority of our Sunday at the pool. The kids loved it and the time flew by for us. Auntie Karen surprised the kids with a visit and was able to see them in action (though we were all still a little slow). While it was a little overcast at first, we all managed to get just a little pink and burn off some energy.

And I had to post the picture above because it's the end-of-the-movie dance party. Kendall went looking for her guitar so that she could play along with the music (we watched "Tangled" for our Saturday Family Movie Night and it was pretty cute). All three seem to enjoy dancing to the music that runs during most of the credits after the movies. Poo Pa stayed for the movie, so he was able to experience the dance party first-hand.

Mommy is a little nervous as the kids start attending a new preschool tomorrow morning. They will be there Monday, Wednesday and Friday all day. Of course, there are things to tend to for the first day (extra clothes, another set of clothes and food items in case of an emergency, some "security" items for naptime, etc). We were able to get just about everything ready this evening so that the morning should involve feeding, dressing and then loading the kids into the van. I even got dinner ready to throw in the oven when we get home tomorrow evening so that I can spend some time talking about their first day.

I'm going to try to call it a day and get some sleep. The morning will be crazy enough so I've decided to skip Operation Boot Camp and focus on getting them to school. Hopefully they will settle in quickly and enjoy meeting new friends.

I've been following a local blogger/mom/citizen for over a year now as she dealt with the horrific injuries her son suffered at the hands of people who prey on young men and women in Knox County. Her son, Henry, died later as a result of those injuries and a drug overdose (which was provided to him by adults he erroneously trusted). She has blogged about her grief, her family, her quest to find justice for Henry.
I felt sick as I read her post on Facebook (and then the details on the blog - see this link here) that "our" District Attorney General, Randy Nichols, has decided to close the case surrounding the death of Henry Granju. I feel like I need to post a link to her post so that anyone locally who might have some influence might feel compelled to pound on the door of our District Attorney and tell him that this is NOT acceptable.
As a mother of three young children, I worry that these people will continue to prey on the local children and continue to cause deaths that are preventable. Preventable if we could just get these criminals off of the streets and away from our children!
DO SOMETHING KNOXVILLE!!!

Pokie is like George Jefferson and "movin' on up!" We have read about goldfish since he has survived almost three months in our home and decided that he needed more space (don't we all?). While there appeared to be some apprehension about the move at first, Pokie was soon swimming laps in his new super-sized home. OK, it's just about 10 gallons, but compared to the goldfish bowl we had, this must seem like a palace to him, right?
We have some decorating to do as it looks pretty boring and we'd like something across the back so we don't have to see the plugs. Right now, he remains at home on the island/peninsula in our kitchen because the kids can't access it quite as easily as most other tables in the house. Hopefully we can find some sort of table or shelf that is sturdy and a little higher off the ground so that Pokie is safe from toddler invasions.

Today was a rainy day. But there is always something to do in K'town. You just have to keep your eyes and ears open. I have mentioned more than once how much we love the Mornings with Mommy program at Shepherd of the Hills church. They are offering this program every week during the summer months and have also added additional days. I haven't been able to make it for the last few visits, but was able to run over and enjoy some time with the kids. Alicia was babysitting, so she was in charge, but Auntie Karen showed up as well. Today's theme had something to do with cooking, so they made chef's hats, played with macaroni noodles and "meatballs" (the brown yarn balls) and even prepared their own snack mixes.
And this evening, I signed them up for a Kindermusik class and took them on my own though Auntie Karen was able to make it, despite the monsoon rainstorm that we had going on at the time. Daddy came towards the end and had fun looking around Smart Toys & Books with the kids. It is a 45 minute program, but was running a little behind waiting for people who were stuck in traffic. The kids wanted to cut-out early once they saw Daddy, but I think they really enjoyed the playtime. I think that the Bilibo (see pic & link) was a big hit, though I am not sure that it is a toy we would own, it was pretty cool. Apparently, this particular model is appropriate for children up to age 7. I'd like to learn more about them, but thought they deserved a mention.

I am ready to call it a day, but just wanted to post something about the events of the day. I'm hoping to get some pics from their trip to Dollywood on Wednesday with Alicia, her sister and her mom. They LOVED it and I think that photos do exist to prove that fun was had by all.

Today is Daddy's birthday but he was scheduled to work unfortunately. I had the kids "farmed-out" so that I could get some stuff done. Auntie Chris, her hubby, Gary and Rachel too Clark and Kendall to the Oak Ridge Children's Museum. They loved it. Auntie Karen & Uncle Tom took Emma to the Dixie Stampede show in Sevierville/Pigeon Forge. She had a great time and was completely engaged during the show.
And I should also mention that she is doing well at potty-training. I haten't see any accidents, but you just never know.
I have GOT to get some sleep, so I'll catch up more later.

Mr. Mike and Ms. Lisa invited us over for some swim-time (and sort of mini swim lesson). The kids had so much fun once they got used to the idea. We even convinced them that Mr. Mike could offer great turtle rides like Daddy. Kendall and Emma eventually warmed up to the concept of jumping into the water to Mr. Mike. Kendall did a really great job kicking in the water and I think she even held her breath once.
At one point, she thought that she wanted out of her suit and back into dry clothes and ran around the grass which gave me a great opportunity to take some pictures. Clark also lost interest in hanging out in a wet suit and switched to dry clothes for some play time. Emma stuck it out in the pool because she knew Daddy was coming once he was done working.
All three were back in the pool (Clark sans suit) once Daddy got in and it was time for another round. Mr. Mike waited them out as well and offered lots of chances to jump in and swim or just take another turtle ride.
After swimming, we were lucky enough to enjoy BBQ, sides and a birthday cake (Daddy's birthday is tomorrow). Kendall blew out all of the candles while they sort of sang for Daddy. I should note that the cake was out-of-this-world yummy (from Butler & Bailey)!
Thanks so much Mr. Mike and Ms. Lisa for a great evening. I think they will sleep well tonight.

Happy Birthday Poo Pa!

We were so happy that Poo Pa and Uncle Albert could come over for a mini-celebration this evening. We had fruit with angel food cake and "creme" (whipped creme from the can). The kids were even able to help him blow out his candle.

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera during the singing and cake, but did manage to catch some fun with the whipped creme. HAPPY BIRTHDAY POO PA!

Mommy & Daddy had a special treat when the kids practiced the bedtime prayer that they are learning at Discovery Kids (First Baptist Concord). We've worked on clasping hands together, bowing our heads and closing our eyes, but they never seemed to focus and go through the process. After just three days at Discovery Kids, the girls are already getting it! Kendall even told me, "Mommy, close your eyes" when she saw me watching her. Emma shouted a big "Amen!" at the end.

I thought the bedtime prayer was sweet and would be a good way to close out my post:

"Thank you, God, as this day ends,

We had some fun family time today as both Mommy & Daddy were off from work. We finally joined the pool in Nanny Barb's subdivision and the five of us spent a few hours there this morning/early afternoon. It was a nice change for us (the parents as the kids have been there 6 out of 7 days this week).

After naptime, we met Poo Pa, Uncle Albert and Uncle Stevie at Pelancho's for dinner to celebrate Poo Pa's birthday this Wednesday and Daddy's birthday coming up on Saturday. The food was tasty and the kids really enjoyed the chips (Kendall appears to love salsa as well).

Once we were back at home, the kids wanted to play outdoors, so that gave me a chance to take some pictures at my favorite time of day. I feel a little alienated from my camera lately and even find it difficult to get decent shots, but I'm always thankful for opportunities like this evening where I can just sit back and watch the fun and try to get pictures along the way.

Mommy and Daddy took a brief trip to Nashville and Clarksville for a wedding Saturday afternoon and Nanny Barb graciously agreed to babysit for 24 hours so that we could go sans kids. She kept them busy all day (along with her sister, Rose) at the pool and then they made a trip to Miss Patti's house to check out the new playset. And they hit the pool again on Sunday morning. Our plans are to join this pool and take them tomorrow morning, but of course, they all wailed "No pool!" when Daddy shared our ideas for the fun pool adventure. Seriously?! They WILL be going to the pool tomorrow. **smiling through gritted teeth** I know they will have lots of fun once we are there, so it will just take some follow-through on our part.

I left Alicia with our point-and-shoot camera today and asked her to try to get some pictures of the kiddos. She did an awesome job! Nanny Barb showed up to pick up the kids and Alicia and run them over to the pool in her subdivision (the one we are still considering whether to join for the rest of the summer). While I wasn't there to share in the fun, it looks like they had a great time. They were able to picnic in the shaded area and goof off in the water.
Tomorrow is day #2 at Discovery Kids, so please keep us in your prayers at drop-off time tomorrow morning. :)

Sorry, but I don't have pics to post this evening (or last night, either). We had fun checking out Nanny Barb's community pool yesterday. Mommy & Daddy are considering joining the pool for the rest of the season since the kids love it so much, so I took a quick trip over there with the kids. She was babysitting for some older children so we all ate pizza and waited out a mini-rainshower before getting into the pool. The kiddie pool is a great size for our crew, so I'm definitely leaning toward "yes" sign up, but these things aren't cheap, so we have to weight out the options.

Beyond that, they started a short summer program today at First Baptist Concord called "Discovery Kids." Drop-off was rough, but I checked back about 30 minutes later and was told that they were all happy, smiling and doing crafts. The program only lasts 5 weeks with two days per week, but so far, it went OK. Crossing my fingers that drop-off on Thursday goes better now that they know what to expect of their day.

I'm going to be sending my camera off for some maintenance (boo), so I will be without the "good" camera. I will certainly miss it, but hope that this maintenance will help it last longer for us and fix a little issue I'm having with the zoom lens.

Time to shut things down. I hope to get some pictures tomorrow. :)

The kids really enjoyed the pool. But when Mommy pulled out the water wings...oh LOOK OUT! They really did give the kids a little help and confidence in the water, Clark especially. Made for a little more fun and a little less stress for Mommy and Daddy too.

First "Real" Visit to the Beach

I say this is their first "real" trip to the beach because they were actually at the beach once before, but completely unaware as they weren't even a year old. Our Nashville family invited us (just before their first Thanksgiving) to join them for a quick trip to the Isle of Palms. It was a long-sleeve/coat kind of beach trip. So I will call this trip the first "real" one because they were actually aware that we were AT the beach this time (and it was bathing-suit weather, too).
We hit Edisto Beach early on Wednesday morning and really lucked-out with overcast skies because it meant that it wasn't blazing hot and we could spend more time there without getting a sunburn. The kids really had fun and had no fear of the water (good and bad). They chased the waves and enjoyed feeling their feet sink in to the "squiggly" (Kendall's word) sand as the water would recede. There were not very many shells, but certainly lots of sand and Kendall was pleased when Daddy "buried" her in the sand. Clark and Emma couldn't get enough of the water and wanted to take every sand toy out to see if they could capture water in any vessel that could be found. The tide was coming in fast, so it required moving our toys up a number of times, which is sort of an odd realization that it was moving so quickly.
Daddy located a jelly fish and kept us all out of harm's way. We also spotted a fish head that was quite popular amongst the seagulls. One super-cool mommy (DEFINITELY not me) let her older son pick it up and throw it back into the water. Ewwwwww!
I've got to get some sleep before those little monsters wake up. More pics to come.
P.S. The kids have LOTS of sunscreen on which shows up in all of the pics (especially on their faces). If I had the time, I could edit this out, but for now I do not have the time. At least we look like responsible parents for slathering the stuff on, right?

Beach Preview

Today we hit a different beach and it was MUCH shell-y-er (meaning full of crunchy shells to walk on, ouch and also lots to look at). The surf was also a little rougher, so Clark and Kendall were not particularly thrilled, but Ems was loving it.
Just wanted to post a few pics to give you a little preview....but be aware that we slather them in sunscreen, so it's not pretty in pictures (lots of white smudges all over). I'm less concerned with the images than I am with suffering through a sunburn with a three-year-old (or worse), so we continue to slather it on!

Turtles, Turtles Everywhere!

[This post is dedicated to our sweet friend, Miss Lisa...because she loves turtles even more than we do!]

We took the kids swimming Wednesday evening at a resort pool and as we were getting ready to leave (amidst mass hysteria and tantrums, I might add) some people were gathered feeding .... something. We checked it out and there were about 35 turtles swimming just below the deck gobbling up all of the bread that was being thrown in their direction. Some of the kids were nice enough to share with my little kiddos and they were able to feed the turtles as well.
This was the first time that we have taken the kids swimming all together (Ems was with us last August). They LOVED the pool, but there was no kiddie pool, so it was a little nerve-wracking for Daddy and I. Clark and Kendall decided that they liked jumping in to Mommy or Daddy. But they didn't always confirm that we knew they were coming, so it was a little crazy, but we are so glad that they love the water. Plans to sign up for swimming lessons are a priority once we are back in Knoxville.
More pictures from our fun in Edisto Beach are coming, but we are having some technical difficulties and limited internet access, so I can't make any promises.

Sometimes one is a kitty cat and the other is dragging the cat around on a makeshift leash. "Meow."

I don't even know what to say about this except "What was she thinking????" And yes, that is a pea!

Tickle-fest during movie night.

Clark is more interested in tickling than the movie. The girls are conflicted.

I think that sometimes they really might wish that they were not part of a "unit." It seems that each of them really does need their space and often just want one-on-one time with Mommy and/or Daddy. It's hard when we are both working. We feel the need to be with them when we are home, but there are things that have to get done (cleaning, laundry, cooking). And then we feel like we should do things as a family rather than split up and take just one or two of them. But sometimes it is probably necessary. It's possible that earlier today was one of those "sometimes", except that EACH of them needed some space...at the same time.
Daddy needed to make a trip to Sam's Club and took Clark along. Apparently this was a great idea because Clark enjoyed the time and behaved perfectly (unlike earlier in the day). They even had a chance to share one of those amazing pretzels. Yummy!
Meanwhile, I gave the girls a bath and we worked on a tiny project before heading downstairs for movie night. They chose Shrek 2. I think it was nice to have some time with just the girls (I even trimmed their hair/bangs a bit). We got started on the movie and had some snuggle-time on the couch. They did well despite the numerous inquiries about the whereabouts of Daddy and Clarkie.
The movie was sort of a hit (I enjoyed it) and they all got out their guitars at the end to dance and play along with the musical ending. It was quite a sight.
There are those other times when they just seem to LOVE being around each other and the appear to enjoy the fun of having a brother/sister to share in the giggles (as in the pics above). It's a relief when they make each other laugh.

I don't want to go on and on about the potty training thing except to say that we are so proud of Little Miss Kendall. She is doing a fantastic job going in the potty all day! She is quick to remind us that she gets a Smartie when she gets the job done and we have yet to get a #2 in the potty, but I don't think she has had accidents most of the week. It's awesome!

No, we are not expecting more children. Yes, some of our children our working at potty training this week! They are doing an awesome job. Clark is not particularly interested, but Kendall had an outstanding day yesterday with no accidents (and NO DIAPERS!). We are so proud of her. Today it seems that Emma took a few cues and also went to the potty. Big high-fivers to her as well.

Moving on to other news, Auntie Karen and Uncle Tom had some one-on-one time with Kendall last Saturday. She was able to hit the "beach" and play on the playground and, of course, eat some lunch.

I sort of get the feeling that she will be going back there again very soon since she seemed to really enjoy herself.

Sunday/Monday Celebrations

Sunday evening we went to my Dad's house for dinner and hangin' with my sister and her family. It was good fun as the kids love to see the rest of their family. We also got together again tonight as a family to celebrate cousin Marshall's 9th birthday. One thing is for sure, the kids love cake!

Mommy had a little special time with Emma & Clark while sissy, Kendall, had some one-on-one time with Auntie Karen & Uncle Tom. Daddy was able to get in a golf game with a friend, so we set out to have some fun.

I decided to try out the Fountain City Park which is near the duck pond. I was disappointed that it was so challenging to find a parking spot, but we finally got to check out the shallow creek and the various playsets that they have to offer.

I think they had a nice time and we enjoyed a picnic on a bench under two HUGE trees that were near the creek. The kids ate almost every bite of their lunch (and Kendall ate like a champ too), so I guess they felt comfortable and relaxed.

I've got lots to do this afternoon/evening, so I wanted to get the post on here a little early. Happy Clean Sheet Sunday!

Beautiful Day on the Square

We spent part of the day at Market Square. They have a wonderful Farmer's Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There are so many vendors that we didn't have the time to check them all out since we had the kids with us, but it was fun to wander around and check out the sights.
When we first arrived, the kids were able to watch a man playing the saxophone and I think they could have stood there for a while, but we had to move along. And later we saw another young man playing a xylophone. It was really sweet to watch them watching these musicians as they were really curious and fascinated.
A couple of years ago, we went to the fountains that they have in the middle of the square when our Ohio family visited. We haven't taken the kids back since then so the girls were really excited to get into their suits and play in the fountains. I wasn't able to get any shots of Kendall in the water before Daddy took the camera back to the car and Clark never did venture into the water.
We had a nice picnic lunch and then Daddy treated the kids to kiddie-sized ice cream cones before we headed back to the "tunnel" (parking garage) and came home. It was a great day and I think we will have to plan to make this a regular family outing.

First Performance

This week at VBS was for sure, a week of growth for the whole family. The culmination of a weeks worth of evenings has resulted in just about one of the most wonderful things I have ever seen. I am so glad that even though every moment wasn't easy and enjoyable for all of us, there was a return on investment that absolutely makes it all worth it. I believe the kids, for the most part had a good time this week. We, as a family, will continue to push through the loud, spirit breaking, exhausting and sometimes embarrassing tantrums our kids throw, to get to the amazing things like happened this evening. I am going very hard to try to post the video onto the blog. At the least, I will get it to Youtube for all to view. I will apologize as the amateur, me, was on the camera tonight. Most pics are a little blurry. If the kids would just stay still!

"Oh the Places You Will Go..."

The picture above is just a glimpse of what tomorrow might bring for us. The VBS week ends with a program for parents, friends and family tomorrow night. This evening, we had a little rehearsal where the kids were able to get on stage and practice the songs and movements. The 3 & 4 year-old group is at the front of the stage (NOT on the floor). Our girls are on the left side near the speaker. They are wearing matching striped shirts. Clark was standing with me.
I hate that I haven't been able to bring my good camera, but they were short on volunteers for our group and I was sticking around because of some separation issues anyway. This meant that I could not worry about my camera equipment since I was helping to herd the children and guide them through the process each evening. I brought along my point-and-shoot, but it just hasn't worked for me.
I'm excited about the program tomorrow night and hope that all three decide to get on stage but more importantly, I'm happy that they have enjoyed the activities this week. We are sort of ready to get back to "normal" where the kids are going to bed closer to 8:30p rather than 9:30p (or later). I think they are worn out and really hope they decide to catch up on some sleep this weekend, though I won't be holding my breath.
While I watched them practice this evening, I couldn't help but think about how many times we will be the proud parents out in the audience, bleachers, or wherever while watching one (or all) of our little munchkins. There is so much more to come.....

The kids had their first visit to Vacation Bible School tonight with the Shake It Up program offered at Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church. The program runs from 6-8:30p and we had some trouble but Daddy & I are very happy to see them involved in this for the week. We will both continue to try to get them there and hang out in order to be sure that they will stick it out. We were already pleased to see them getting better at "standing like popsicles" along the wall so that they could all be counted. Kendall also did well at following directions and seemed the most likely to kick Mommy to the curb as she settled in nicely.
I HAVE to get to bed as it's an early day at Operation Boot Camp tomorrow morning and I am worn out!

The kids had lots of fun at another Mornings with Mommy session at Shepherd of the Hills church here in Knoxville. They have added more sessions and are doing programs weekly (instead of twice per month) for the summer. If you have young children, you really need to check it out! Lots of fun to be had by all participants!

I still have so many pictures from our trip to Nashville and I'd like to try to remember what we did each day. On Saturday, we all loaded up and headed to The Monkey's Treehouse and the cousins seemed to have fun checking out all that they had to offer. Afterwards, we headed to Jim & Nick's BBQ restaurant and had an amazing lunch! The kids took a nap with Daddy while Mommy and Aunt Marsha did some shopping. Once we were back at the house, we pulled out the sprinkler, the Toy Story puzzle and also had a wonderful meal on the patio.
Clark could not get enough of the golf cart and the girls might have spent hours on the trampoline if we had the patience. Both Marshall and David were really great keeping the kids entertained and playing with them. I'm not a big fan of trampolines, but I definitely see the up-side in that they would wear themselves out running around it and jumping everywhere.
And they were all thrilled that we offered movie night every night after baths. They never seemed to last more than about thirty minutes, but it was worth the effort to see them snuggle up with their cousins.

So Much Fun! Nashville, We Love You!

What an awesome time we had in Nashville! Even though the sleeping wasn't great (not because of the accommodations, but our kids), it was hot outside and the 13 year cicadas were in full force, we still had a great time. I would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to my sister Marsha and her husband Bill and their two sons, David and Marshall, for a terrific time on our little mini vacation. They were such gracious hosts and we are very lucky to have them in our lives. I was especially proud of David and Marshall as they were so attentive to kids and seemed to really enjoy hanging out with them.

Our kids were a little upset when leaving Nashville today. A far different story than Friday night when Kendall said she wanted to go home and had a pretty big tantrum. We toughed it out and the kids wound up having a terrific time. We have more pics than we can share on one post so we will be using the Nashville pics throughout the week. - Daddy

We are visiting family in Nashville for the holiday weekend. I will be posting more pics later, but Mommy and Daddy are bunking with the girls, so I have to cut this short. Here's a quick shot of the cousins, Marshall, Clark, Kendall, David and Emma, during movie night (Toy Story 3, of course).

School's Out For Summer!

Today was Clark's last day at school until the fall and he and his classmates had a special water play day outside. Unfortunately, he wasn't particularly thrilled that he was allowed to get his shoes and clothes wet, so he didn't jump in the sprinkler or pools. But he did have fun with the fishing pool, bubbles and the squirter thing-ga-ma-jigs.
And, of course, drop-off went smoothly and he was excited to go to school. Now he will have a break for the summer and we might have to deal with the anxiety of drop-off again next year....or he just might grow out of it. I enjoyed getting to chat with his teachers and I was also able to meet some of the children in his class (since he talks about them often).
The kids enjoyed a little snack before we were allowed to take him home early. He had a double-surprise when Daddy showed up as well (licensing exam today allowed him a little extra time before going to work - and he passed, just in case anyone was wondering). We picked up his backpack, dry clothes and the folder with some of his artwork from the school year (since Feb. 1, actually) and that was it. Bye-bye teachers and friends until August.

Meanwhile, the girls were with Nanny Barb and they had outdoor playtime once Clark was back at home (though he took an early nap).

And the kids had a special visitor this afternoon....Ms. Pam! I haven't gotten the details yet, but I'm sure she kept them entertained. Nanny Barb and Ms. Pam took them to Chili's for "kids eat free" this evening while Daddy & I were still working.

Oooo! Thunder!

Mommy escaped with some of her peeps this weekend to the wonderful Shangri-La of the lake house. Big thanks to the Carrolls for letting the girls descend on it again this year. I had the kids this weekend with some help from Nanny barb and Auntie Karen. Thanks so much Barb and Karen , we don't know what we'd do without you. In fact we don't know what we would do without everyone who has ever helped us. We are blessed, no doubt. Here are some pics from today at the lake house. The snake in the bottom pic is what I am 99% sure is a copper head. Bad news if someone gets bit. If untreated, could be fatal.

Keepin' Busy on the Weekend!

Aunt Karen was super nice today to take Clark out for a bit while she ran some errands. Clark also assisted Uncle Tom today in some landscaping and maintenance. I took the girls for a bike ride on the greenway to the park for some play time and then to Poopa's for a snack and drink. All kids napped like champs today as they were all out of bed and going by 7. Yes 7. After a super nap, we watched a little TV as it was very hot outside, had some dinner, watermelon dessert outside and then worked in our future garden spot a little in the backyard. After that, bath time where Kendall was super helpful with getting everyone clean. Popcorn and movie night is in full effect as I type. Tomorrow? Well, Clean Sheet Sunday of course!

Fun on Thursday

Nanny Barb and Auntie Karen were nice enough to take the girls to the Mornings with Mommy program this morning. I was able to get over there for a little while to join in on the fun and get a few giggles with the girls. Today's them was something about animals, so they made masks (Kendall - giraffe, Emma - monkey) and painted zebra stripes. As usual there was also some singing and also the tubs with something to pour and dig around inside. This time it was rice with little animal figurines. We also had a little time outdoors with the "parachute" which was a big hit with almost all of the kids.
We are excited that Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will be offering the Mornings with Mommy program EVERY week this summer. The program is the same for one week so you can choose which day is best for your family (Tuesday through Friday). I'm looking forward to scheduling this time with the kids because the church does a fantastic job keeping them active and stimulated.

It looks like Nanny Barb made a detour to a nearby park with the girls after the fun at SOTH Mornings with Mommy. I know that they always enjoy a surprise stop at a park. Afterwards, they had lunch and then picked up Clark. He only has one more day left of school this year and it's a water play day, so I am hoping to be able to attend and take some pictures.

We had some bananas that were on the fast track to being very ripe and mentioned the idea of banana bread or muffins to Nanny Barb. It looks like she managed to get some help from Clark (and he seems to have bed-head). I'm sure he got a kick out of mashing all of those bananas!

That's all for now. Mommy is headed out of pocket for some girl-time. Daddy will be in charge, along with the help of the sitters and also Auntie Karen. Say a few prayers for Daddy and the kids that everything goes smoothly and the kids cooperate as much as possible (for three-year-olds). I'm sure he will have some fun stories to share here.

I'm off to bed as I have a very early start again tomorrow. I've signed up for Operation Boot Camp here in Knoxville and it requires that I start my day before 5am in most cases. This may be "normal" for some, but it's taking some adjustments. And the workout itself is 45 minutes of craziness. It will last 30 days, so I'll be sure to share my thoughts at the end.

I was in charge this evening and forgot to take pictures. Mommy was working late but got home in time to read some stories and hug on the kids. Mommy puts Clark to bed, comes into the girls room where I was and asked "Did you take any pictures tonight?". Nope I didn't, so she clicked a few of the girls giggling before bed holding their animals and dolls. TGFM Thank God For Mommy! -Daddy

Dancing Queens

One of my princess girls wanted to get dressed up in her Tinkerbell outfit (including her ballet slippers). She really seems to be interested in dancing. Emma wanted to goof off and dance too, but she was a little less concerned with her costime. Clark wanted to dress up, but Mommy and Daddy did their best to explain that these were for girls.

Goofing Off After a Hard Day

We had a rough start this morning, but I don't feel like elaborating at the moment. The kids spent the day without any "treats" as a result....no movies, no park, no feeding ducks. This was sort of a punishment for the parents also because it meant we were stuck at home sticking to our proverbial guns.
The kids were spotted goofing off in the playroom just before we headed upstairs for baths. I took the picture of Kendall without realizing that she had found something to snack on while playing. Gross that I got it in the pictures, but that's the only one I had of her. Clark was dreaming about playing out in the front yard where he could keep an eye on Tyler and Mr. Joe (neighbors across the street). And Emma was just making Kendall laugh with her antics.

Story time with Daddy

Daddy told stories tonight. Actually, it was just one story, more than once. He gave the kids his spin on "The Three Little Pigs" and they had fun.

"Little Pig, Little Pig. Let me in!" said the Big, Bad Wolf.....

"Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin" replied the pig.

To which the Wolf replied, "Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll BLOW.......

.....your house in!" (**insert Daddy blowing right in her face**)

Kendall was the one who stayed put for at least two "tellings" of the story and still seemed to be waiting to learn just what would happen next.....

And she'd crack up every time he'd blow in her face!

Meanwhile, Clark was less than interested in Daddy's antics (he got to hear the story the FIRST time Daddy told it). He moved on to cars, trucks and other fun things. So I didn't manage to really get many pictures of him.

The Little Gardeners

Kim and I have talked about having a garden for years and we believe it would be a great family activity for us. The kids, as most, find pleasure in digging, getting dirty and well, anything that involves dirt. I have a huge schedule shift coming up next week at work and I am getting to where my hours will be more family friendly. I will be getting home much earlier in the evening with lots of daylight to spare so that we as a family can work on our garden together. I think the only thing we have to worry about with the kids is making sure they don't "love" gardening so much that they kill the plants. We will keep everyone updated, of course, on our progress and hopefully by the late summer/fall have some vegetables and/or fruits to show for the effort. BTW, sorry about missing a post yesterday. Google was doing site maintenance which didn't allow us access to the blog site to post. -Daddy

Big Kids Sleeping in Their Big Kid Beds!

We have delayed switching from cribs/pack-and-plays because it was simply more convenient to know that they were somewhat secure in their beds and unable to just roam freely. I don't like the idea of locking them in their bedrooms and having them in the cribs meant that I would know just where they were at night.
But Emma was ready to switch months ago and we offered her the toddler bed. She would go back to the crib sometimes and we would wonder if we'd ever be able to cut the crib cord.
Around the same time, we offered a toddler bed to Kendall and she was not interested. Sure, she'd snuggle into it for a nap but ahe would usually change her mind and prefer the safety of the pack-and-play surrounded by way too many stuffed animals and then covered over the top with a blanket to serve as her "tent." Eventually she flat our refused to even start out in the toddler bed. And then we decided to move her into Emma's room a couple of weeks ago in an effort to help her feel less "afraid" and hopefully be more willing to move into her toddler bed.
Clark wasn't really even offered a toddler bed before this past weekend. He loved to jump into Emma's, but we just weren't willing to risk letting him "escape". Until recently when he learned to climb in and out of his pack-and-play. Sure, it was kind of funny. But it also looked pretty risky as he would tumble head first into his bed (which, in case you haven't been around a pack-n-play, looks like a very thin layer of some sort of press board).
Both Clark and Kendall were outgrowing their sleeping accomodations and looked like they probably spend the entire night keeping their legs curled up, or hunched over so that they could fit inside. We couldn't continue to subject them to such terrible conditions and expect them to feel like they were rested every morning.
While they were camping Saturday night (as I mentioned in a prior post), we moved furniture around and gave all of the crib-like items away (OK, disposed of the crib actually because it was recalled and completely useless). We explained to them that there were other babies who needed these items and that it was time for the big kid beds. Clark has never looked back. Kendall offered a little whimper when she first got upstairs on Sunday afternoon, but she seemed to be fine and they have slept well since then.
Whew. Crisis averted. What a relief. I guess this means that I really must tackle the next thing on my "things-I-am-completely-dreading-but-will-have-to-do-anyway-list" which is potty training. I think I'll just wait until Nanny Barb gets back. : )

Camping: Part 2

I left my point-and-shoot camera with A and her family so that they might take some pics of the kiddos. I am pretty sure that the kids had a great time. And I was told that they loved taking a bath in the sprinklers (the showers, but they wore their water shoes). It looks like the kids might have dined on s'mores, but I haven't confirmed that yet but I have to say that I'm jealous because I LOVE s'mores!
We are so grateful to the whole Boris family for including the kids in their Saturday/Sunday camping time as Troy and I were able to get SOOOOOO much done at home. I will do my best to take pictures of the kids' rooms tomorrow. We still have more work to do, but we are so excited that they are all sleeping quietly (knock-on-wood) in their big-kid beds.
We also made a trip to see Poo Pa (at his home away from home while he recovers from knee surgery) this afternoon. I didn't really get a chance to take pictures, but did get this one that wasn't blurry:

Saturday Happenings

Our sitter, A, and her family offered to let us bring the kids to them today as they are camping in the Pigeon Forge area. The kids are spending the night in the camper with the whole family while Mommy & Daddy are hard at work at home (see below).
We hung out for a while before saying good-bye and heading home. They have a great site along the river where turtles, mallards and geese were swimming nearby. The kids were so excited about the camper and the whole experience. I can't wait to hear what they tell us about it tomorrow.

Before we left, they were being silly sitting in A's car (no keys, of course).

Meanwhile....................Mommy & Daddy are busy making some changes at home. We had already moved Kendall into Emma's room which is now called "the girls' room" and I wanted to make it a little more girlie. We also wanted to make Clark's room a little more of his own. And we are taking back one of the kid's rooms to serve as the office and sort of a guest room option (though no one really wants to spend the night here now that we have three kids). We got the gigantic desk out of our bedroom and also put the full-sized bed (which has been stored in the garage) into the office. For now, a hint of things to move on out.....

Tiny Dancers

My tiny dancers wanted to put on their "baller-let" shoes and dance tonight. Poor Clarkie was upset that there were only two pairs of "baller-let" slippers so he went digging through the shoe bags (this is the place where shoes are stored that are still too big and where we originally found said ballet slippers) and came out in the outfit pictured above. Yes, Daddy would prefer that I not include such pictures in the blog, but then again, Clark is just too stinkin' cute when you realize how much he wanted to be a part of the dance party. And his dance outfit looks pretty tough considering he has paired the inside-out orange tutu with a dinosaur shirt and his blue shoes that he seems to think are his "baller-let" shoes. He makes it all look cool, don't you think????
I really think there is some potential for Kendall with dancing because she just seems to love it so much and I really hope that Emma finds joy in it too. Emma loves to prance around and spin and bend over on her head (not as graceful as some moves) as part of her routine. Kendall can switch from classical ballet to hip-hop then moves right into breakdancing and the moon walk.
Daddy and I really enjoyed the dance recital this evening and I hope you get a kick out of the pictures too. I know that I will enjoy looking back on this night for many years.
